Gabe Henry explores the quirky history of the Simplified Spelling Movement, which tried for centuries to streamline our spelling by turning through into thru, laugh into laf, and enough into enuf (tu naim a few).
Fraud, deception, and pseudoscience in the works of John James Audubon with Matthew Halley
For more than a decade, Dr. Matthew Halley has been studying the art, science, and pseudoscience of John James Audubon (1785–1851). His research has uncovered a lengthy and disconcerting record of scientific misconduct in Audubon’s famous works, The Birds of America (1827–38) and Ornithological Biography (1831–39), including imaginary species, plagiarized drawings, false narratives, and fabricated data. Halley will summarize this controversial work, highlighting the most egregious examples.

What are the political benefits to trade when it comes to International Relations? How can trade can disrupt national economies? Thus, Nerd Nite is a monthly event held in 100+ cities (like Tokyo, Miami, London, Fargo, and New York) during which folks give 20-minute fun-yet-informative presentations across all disciplines – while the audience drinks along! There are often bands, trivia, and other shenanigans as well. Must be 21 or older to attend this event.
